For anyone watching the Grammys, it was undoubtedly a night of massive entertainment, both from the standpoint as a viewer AND also as a social media listener. Once again, Twitter proved that it is far from dead (or dying), as it owned the social conversation. While Facebook and Instagram recieved likes and some shares, the real engagement and conversation was happening in Twitter.
For several hours the trending topics were filled with Grammy artists. While most trends were caused from the real time reactions of users during the ceremony, one particular hashtag – #OutBoastKanye – began trending prior as a reaction to some of Kanye West’s recent tweets. Beyond the trophys though, the biggest buzz was surrounding Lady Gaga and her tribute to the late David Bowie. While David Bowie was in the hearts and minds of many at home and at the Grammys, including Zendaya whose tribute hair created enough social chatter to make her trend on Twitter for several hours, it was Gaga that owned Twitter at the Grammys with her mindblowing performance melding fashion and technology in a way that Bowie would certainly have approved of.
