Google Introduces Property Sets for Search Console

Google Search Console SEO

Google Search Console (formerly known as Webmaster Tools) has always required that a site, which it refers to as a “property,” have a specific URL. Rather than setting up a property as domain.com, you had to specify http://www.domain.com, http://domain.com, https://www.domain.com, http://sub.domain.com, etc. This meant that if you changed the default URL of a site, from http://domain.com to https://domain.com for example, you had to set up reporting for a new property at the new URLs. The old setup would not look at URLs at their new locations, even if 301 redirects were in place to tell Google where to find the site’s content.

Google has recently announced that they are making it possible to group different parts of a site (or sites) together into what they’re referring to as “property sets.” This means that for sites with multiple subdomains, separate mobile and desktop sites, even sites and their related mobile apps, all of your clicks and impressions can be monitored within a single report, just as it can be done in Google Analytics.

Overdrive’s SEO team is recommending that any clients with content on different subdomains, international domains, or any other situations that required separate properties in Search Console in the past, have us set up a property set to track all of your content.
