The ‘Follow Company’ button has been around for a year and a half and tens of millions of professionals now follow over 2 million companies on LinkedIn. While following companies has always helped users access their favorite companies easily, now users will be able to interact with the companies they follow even more.
Now, on LinkedIn, you can like, comment on and share Company Status Updates.
In this new release, Companies (once they assign an administrator and set their page to “Designated Admins Only”) will be able to share content to their followers on the Company page’s “Overview” tab.
Similar to Facebook Updates, your status can be up to 500 characters and support URLs to websites and multimedia. Since ANY LinkedIn member is able to comment, like, or share your Company’s update, you can now build engagement with customers, potential employees, and prospective clients as well.
For social media marketers, this is another way to distribute great content with a professional audience in mind. While Twitter and Facebook are great places to engage consumers and build communities around products and features, LinkedIn is meant for more professional content. While still engaging consumers, content will most likely be around best practices, company culture, recruiting information and services offered, to appeal to the professional audience.
If you have a considerable following, your updates already have a substantial reach. But, because anyone can view, comment, like, and share your updates, your potential reach goes beyond your followers, to the entire LinkedIn community.
