Everyone likes a comeback, right? What if it’s MySpace trying to make the comeback? 15 months after its acquisition by Specific Media, MySpace finally released a great sneak peek video of the new MySpace. While it’s not yet available, you can enter your email address here for invite only access as it’s released. Until access has been granted we won’t know everything, but here’s a good start:
– Users log in with Facebook or Twitter choosing photos and other information to include
– Status updates look similar to the mobile app Path, with photos largely displayed and users commenting underneath. In other words, it is similar to a “fancier Tumblr-Pinterest”
– Similar to the older version, there will be an emphasis on music with a built-in player but no word of a partnership with a provider such as Spotify, Rdio or Rhapsody
– Seems to offer “insights” to users about how people are interacting with posts
– One of the most important things- the design is clearly built for the desktop Web, an area that most networks are moving away from utilizing
The question still remains, why would anyone want to use MySpace? What is the value? These questions might be more clear once it is released in beta. Until then, how do you feel about MySpace getting back into the social game?
