On Friday, August 18th, the Overdrive team arrived at the office for a light breakfast and to be assigned to one of three teams: Team Beer Pressure, Team Fantasticans, or Team Bad Intentions. Once we all had our teams and our hats, we hopped aboard a trolley and headed to the North End of Boston.
Outside the Hard Rock Cafe near Faneuil Hall we were welcomed by a Cashunt Boston guide who gave the three teams a list and an iTouch to take photos with, then sent us on our way.
Challenges and point opportunities were based on finding a variety of locations around the North End, taking photos in a range of poses, and even wrangling a friendly passerby into a silly photo or two.
A few hours, miles, and photos later the teams reconvened at Anthem Bar in Faneuil Hall. Over food and drinks, it was announced that team Beer Pressure had won the scavenger hunt with about 15,000 points. Team Fantasticans came in second place, with around 12,000 points, while Team Bad Intentions finished third at 9,000 points.
It was later surfaced that team Bad Intentions should have gotten a few bonus points for CEO Harry Gold’s daring rescue of a bird! Harry went above and beyond to gently grab the bird trapped in a stairwell and carry it to a safe place outside. The bird shook it right off and flew away.
After enjoying a wonderful meal, the teams were sent to their final destination of the day: Frost Ice Loft! On a warm August day, Overdrive received ponchos and gloves and were sent into an acclimation chamber before being allowed into the bar space – which hovers just below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. No need to order anything on the rocks – cocktails were served in glasses made entirely of ice.
Overall, the team had a great day with wonderful food, beverages, and company. But we are a digital marketing agency, and the day wouldn’t be complete without some engagement metrics! Our director of social media, Bob Cargill, set up a contest: the tweet about our summer outing sent during the day that got the most engagements would win a gift card. The tweet must include #agencylife and mention @ovrdrv. The social media team sat this one out to see how the SEO masters and other folks would fare. The winner? Our Director of Client Services, Ty Velde! Congrats, Ty. Lesson learned? Photos boost engagement!
